Bridgewater Associates is an American investment management firm founded by Ray Dalio in 1975 from his two-bedroom apartment in New York City. Operating from Westport, Connecticut, Bridgewater grew into the world’s largest hedge fund manager, managing over $150 billion in institutional assets at its peak.
Bridgewater pioneered systematic fundamental macro investing through its Pure Alpha fund and institutionalized modern asset allocation by inventing the Risk Parity framework via the All Weather fund in 1996.
